West Hartford (AP) - The AAA says the average price of regular gas in Connecticut has dropped 7 cents over the past month, but remains 19 cents higher than the national average.

The automobile club says regular gas is now selling for an average of $2.83 a gallon, the second highest price in the region after New York's $2.88 a gallon. The national average price is $2.64 a gallon, down 9 cents since AAA's last report on Jan. 12.

The average price for diesel in Connecticut dropped 6 cents a gallon to $3.11 over the past month.

AAA surveys more than 1,000 gas stations in Connecticut and nearly 100,000 stations across the country.
