Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - Five members of the Connecticut National Guard were wounded in Afghanistan Sunday when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device.
The five soldiers were from the New Haven-based 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry Regiment. Three of the wounded are receiving treatment facilities at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. Two of the others injured were treated and returned to duty.
Lt. Col. Francis Evon, commander of the deployed unit stated: "It is now more than ever we stand together. We will continue to keep these brave men and their families in our prayers during their time of need. I am very proud of these men and all the great accomplishments of every Soldier in the Battalion."
Family members of all five soldiers received official notification on Sunday. All of them have been offered access to a variety of National Guard and Department of Defense provided resources.
