HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- The Hartford area took a beating, courtesy of Mother Nature last night.

If you hit the road before dawn like News 8 did, you probably saw trees down across the roads.

If you're really unlucky, then you started your day like some folks in Wallingford, with a tree down across your house.

A tree came down on a Hartford apartment building around 5 a.m.

"Did you hear the wind whipping beforehand," asked News 8's Kent Pierce.

"Yeah, the wind was very strong, very strong," said Jessica Nadal.

Jessica and Anthony live on the second floor and lost their satellite dish. Part of the tree went right through a third floor window.

"What did it sound like," asked Pierce.

"It sounded as if a car crashed into the apartment," said Anthony Hernandez.

"Woke you up," asked Pierce.

"Yeah, I jumped right out of the bed," said Hernandez.

Another tree on Fern Street in Hartford damaged a truck and two cars. The damage was widespread, but not severe, unless of course it's your car, house or block where the tree came down.

Folks on Hartford's Sherman Street were pretty much trapped for the morning not knowing if power lines in the street were energized or not.
