Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - A small businessman who believes that the U.S. Constitution is being trampled is making his way across the country and dropping off a copy of the document to state lawmakers.
Daren Gardner is on what he is calling the Constitution Ride Across America, a 75-day trip to each of the 48 contiguous states. He made a stop this afternoon at the state capitol in Hartford.
"You look at the health care bill and the cap and trade and the TARP money and all these czars that are accountable to nobody. This is not the way America is supposed to be run," Gardner said.
Gardner says there is nothing in the Constitution that says the government is supposed to bail out banks with taxpayer money. He wants lawmakers to remember what is in the Constitution and take America back to the basics.
"We cannot continue to do business the way that we have been. It's just amazing to me how the government today thinks they have to be in every part of our lives -- and they don't. They were formed strictly to protect us, not to control us," he said.
Gardner's next stop is the Rhode Island state capitol tomorrow morning.
