HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- How about this for a fashion trend: sweatpants are in, at least in Hartford. The Capitol City came in second in the nation when it comes to the number of sweatpants they bought in the last year.
It's the land of insurance, the epicenter of Connecticut law, and the home to one of America's greatest authors.
However, did you know, that Hartford, sometimes referred to as "New England's Rising Star," is also known for sweatpants.
"Oh! Okay! I've never heard of that before," said Brandon Johnson.
"You're not impressed," said New 8's Jamie Muro.
"Not really," Johnson replied.
Don't sweat that opinion because according to "Experian Marketing," the capital city is second in the country for people buying and wearing sweatpants
"When you got up this morning, you open the closet door, what are you looking for," asked Muro.
"Sweats," said one man said.
"Sweats," questioned Muro.
"It's comfortable," he replied.
"You look good," said Muro.
"Thank you."
In fact, sweats are so beloved there, some even wear pants beneath pants.
"So you're wearing khaki's, but you are also wearing sweatpants," said Muro.
"Those are sweatpants!"
Those are sweatpants," said....
Not wanting to be left out, News 8's Jamie Muro donned his own drab gray pair and sought some advice.
"The shirt throws it off," one man told Muro.
"The shirt throws it off," repeated Muro. "But the whole outfit is not doing it?"
"You pull it off nicely," another man replied.
"Would the ladies like something like this," asked Muro.
"No."
The question of course is why Hartford?
"Because it's cold," replied Johnson. "It's always cold!"
Whatever the reason, Hartford has yet another reason to celebrate: insurance, government, classic authors, and soft, cotton pants.
"Maybe that means something good for us," said Karl Robinson, "I hope!"
