Hazmat tests suspicious substance in Avon

AVON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Hazmat responded to a school in Avon Wednesday to investigate a suspicious substance.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m., at the Farmington Valley Diagnostic Center, located at 395 West Avon Rd.

Avon police and firefighters, Hazmat and DEEP all responded to the scene, for a white power substance left in an employee's purse.

Police said students had already been dismissed for the day, and the remaining school staff was evacuated.

When Hazmat tested they substance they found it to be baking soda.

Avon Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
