NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Richard "Rick" Guinness, an award-winning journalist for newspapers including the New Britain Herald and Journal Inquirer of Manchester, has died. He was 52.

Guinness died Saturday, several months after suffering head injuries in a bicycle accident, according to the Herald.

Guinness won several awards during his career, including one from the Society for Professional Journalists for a series of stories in the Herald on the plight of a Polish immigrant who faced deportation while his wife awaited a kidney transplant.

Guinness also had worked at the Hartford Advocate and Cambridge Day.

The First Lutheran Church of the Reformation in New Britain, where Guinness worshipped, confirmed his death and said a memorial service was being planned.
