EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Lagos man has filed a lawsuit suing the companies that built a plane that crashed in Nigerian last weekend, including the East Hartford-based Pratt & Whitney.
David Allison's wife, Joy, was on board the Dana Air flight along with 152 other people when it went down in Nigeria on Sunday.
The 56-page lawsuit names The Boeing Company and McDonnell Douglas, the Chicago-based manufacturers of the engines, and Peter Waxton, the United States-based pilot of the plane from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, plus Pratt & Whitney Canada.
The suit claims that both of the MD-83 airplane's engines failed on final approach and that the pilot in-command declared an emergency immediately afterward.
The suit seeks unspecified damages and requests a jury trial on all issues.
West Hartford's Maimuna Anyene, her husband and their four young children were also killed in the crash.
The crash marks the worst air disaster in Nigeria in 20 years. The crash remains under investigation.
