GRANBY, Conn. (WTNH) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy has ordered that flags be flown at half staff today in honor of Army Specialist Richard Charlton Emmons III.
Emmons, 22, was killed in Afghanistan on May. 31. He was the driver on a mounted patrol when his vehicle was hit by a rocket propelled grenade.
Emmons death was caused by shrapnel injuries he sustained in the attack.
Emmons enlisted in 2009 and was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Polk, Louisiana.
