Hartford (WTNH) - State police are investigating the death of a man who fought with Hartford Police.
It happened a little before 7:50 p.m. Monday as officers conducted a drug investigation at 195 Sigourney Street.
Plain clothes and uniformed officers took part in that investigation. Officers suspected a 25-year-old man of selling drugs, and when they tried to detain him he fought with them.
"While the suspect was in Hartford Police custody, awaiting transportation to police Headquarters, the suspect suddenly became unconscious," state police said in a statement. "EMS was summoned and responded to the scene. The suspect was transported to St Francis Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead."
The man was identified as Aaron Robinson, who lived on Sargent Street in Hartford.
The chief says officers subdued him without guns or Tasers. State police said Robinson appeared to only have a minor head injury.
Robinson's body was taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
Anyone who may have seen what happened is asked to contact state police at Troop H at 860-534-1000.
