EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Firefighters have been searching for a man who fell into the Connecticut River in East Hartford.

Authorities say the man was walking with friends along a foot path near the East Hartford boat launch when he fell into the river around 1 a.m. Friday.

The Hartford Courant reports the man's friends tried to reach him with a branch as he floated down the river.

East Hartford and Hartford fire departments were using boats to search the river along with a dive team from the Capitol Region Emergency Services Team. Searchers were also looking along the shoreline.
