Hartford, Conn (WTNH) - He lost his arm after getting it stuck in his furnace. Now, he's talking about his new bionic hand.
Jonathan Metz, 31, who lost his left arm after getting stuck in his home's furnace for two days is getting used to his new prosthetic limb and looking forward to his wedding.
Metz, of West Hartford, says he's had the artificial limb for about a week. The BeBionic limb made by British company RSLSteeper includes a hand with five fingers that move individually under the control of a microprocessor.
Does everybody come over and talk to you or do they whisper and point?
"Initally, when i first got out of the hospital, there weree quite a lot of people who would come up to me and ask are you that guy," Metz said. "People also come up to me and and say I don't know how you dd it and I don't think I could do it, but if you say that when times are bad the human spirt is strong ... people will pull through."
Metz's arm got stuck while he worked on his furnace on June 7. He screamed for hours but no one heard him. When he noticed infection was setting in, he took saw blades and nearly succeeded in cutting his entire arm off.
"When I'm wearing a longsleve shirt people don't even know, Metz said. "It looks real. It's a real thing. "Lee, the woman who painted it, is actually here, she also does special effects for big motion pictures,. Zombees she mentioned she does a lot of."
What is in Metrz's future?
"Short term i'm getting married, Metz said." "She is probably the single most important person in my life and is certinally the biggest reason I wanted to live, and so she is up here full time. The moving truck came and she is up here full time. The house is a a total disaster. Boxes and furniture. So, we are going through that process."
