Hartford (AP) - Federal Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says Connecticut will be getting $31.5 million in stimulus aid to improve transit systems in New Haven and Danbury.

LaHood said in a statement Thursday that the money will go toward building a 30,000-square-foot main repair shop for Metro-North trains at the New Haven rail yard and improving the Danbury Metro-North line.

The funding is from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which has made available more than $5.7 billion for transit improvements across the country since President Barack Obama signed the legislation in February.
