Berlin (WTNH) - Volunteers stepped up to help a homeowner who is trying to make summer fun for her kids.
Neighbors helped the Vanook family realize their dream. They
helped replace their damaged pool so the kids can swim. The family
bought the pool but then couldn't afford to have it installed.
A mother posted her story on a community volunteering website
called
DaveZillion.com and today a
small army of volunteers offered to lend a hand.
"It's important to get to know your neighbors and help each other out especially in these tough times," said President Rob Morse of DaveZillion.com. "In this economy, anyway you can save a couple of bucks helps."
"Everyone's facing tough times right now and so for us to replace our pool, I know that it's a luxury item, but for us to do it, you know we're not going on vacation, we're staying put," said Marcie Wnuk of Berlin.
Marcie revealed to News Channel 8 she can't afford to take her kids on vacation so the pool will be their only get-away this summer.
