Protestors outside state budget talks

Hartford (WTNH) -

Governor Rell resumed talks with lawmakers today about a new two-year budget.

But did they make any progress today?

Governor spoke to reporters late this afternoon, not releasing details about these talks, only saying they are "inching along."

Political satire on the front steps of the governor's mansion as lawmakers once again meet to try and hammer out a budget, a demonstration poking fun at the process.

Last week Governor Jodi Rell announced she was willing to consider some sin taxes as long as the democrats came through with more spending cuts.

Add to all this the calender creeping to September 1 when the state has to close the books. And if there's no budget, the $900 million in rainy day funds will have to be spent to fill a defecit.

"July 1 was our first deadline, tomorrow is another deadline, but we are going to keep working until we have a budget," Rell said.

Governor has signed two executive orders allowing state government to operate without a budget.
