Newington (WTNH) - Newington resident Rahul Patel claimed a $25 million Powerball Jackpot prize won on June 27, 2009. Patel was the single jackpot winner for that night's drawing.

Harris Sohail of West Hartford works at the Sam's on New Britain Avenue in West Hartford that sold the winning lottery ticket.

"I was just excited when my mom told me we sold the ticket," said Sohail. "I rushed over here because I heard he might be coming over and I wanted to see who it was."

The winner hasn't been back yet, but the owners are hoping to meet him.

"You feel good about that, I was the reason that somebody got the ticket and god bless them who won the ticket," said Sunny Akhter of West Hartford. "I don't know who won, but when I see him maybe I will recognize him; good for him and all his family."

The ticket was a $1 Powerball ticket bought two minutes before the deadline on the machine; it was a quick pick and the people say word is traveling fast as it being the place to buy a lottery ticket.

Nationwide, 520,480 winning tickets were purchased for the June 27, 2009 Powerball drawing;15,242 of those tickets were sold here in Connecticut.

From the more than half a million winning tickets sold, only one matched all six numbers correctly, resulting in the multi-million dollar win for Patel.

The winning numbers on Patel's ticket were 18-22-26-39 -48 and a Powerball of 17. Power Play multiplier number was 4.

Opting to take the prize as a one-time cash lump sum, the winner received a  prize of $12,506,253.13.

Overall odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1 in 35.1. The odds of matching the jackpot prize are 1 in 195,249,054.

This is the sixth Powerball jackpot won on a ticket sold in Connecticut since the CT Lottery joined the multi-state game in 1995. The last jackpot prize in Connecticut occurred in October 2007 when an Eastford resident won $15 million.
