Occupy Wall Street comes to Hartford

Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - Nearly 100 movement participants gathered in Hartford today to discuss ways to overcome corporate greed.

The movement, referred to as Occupy Wall Street, has already led to hundreds of arrests in New York City.

However, today the movement moved to Hartford, where participants divided themselves up into different committees in an attempt to plan for an upcoming invasion of Bushnell Park near the State Capitol.

Some people are describing Occupy Wall Street as a Tea Party on the left, with an emphasis on human needs versus corporate greed.

"I'm here to show my support for the movement growing because things need a change," said Chris Robertson of Plainville. "We need to live as U.S. citizens...we can't be...we all need to live, we all need to eat, we all need to sleep and right now, the way things are going we can't."

The Occupy Wall Street Movement began on several Facebook and Twitter pages.

One person who attended the meeting today told News 8 the real theme of the movement is putting the needs of people and the planet before profit.
