MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) -- A community college and high school were sent into lock down after reports of a student with a gun on campus. During the lock down a cop accidentally discharged his gun and suffered a gunshot wound to his foot.
"I was shaking and I was texting my mom the whole time and she was going crazy at work," said one student.
Tactical officers swarmed Manchester Community College Wednesday afternoon.
"They were telling us all to get out and we came outside and then that's when they were all rushing in with their guns and everything," said another student.
Police got a call around 1:30 this afternoon from a student who says she saw a man with a gun in his waist band.
"We all had to cram into one closet and it was just so scary," said a third student.
As police entered the Community College and the Great Path Academy High School next door, a single shot rang out. An officer hit himself in the foot in an accidental shooting.
"There was at least 8 state police on their way up with lights and sirens and each one that I saw get out of their car went immediately to the back of the car to get their assault rifles," said Leon Bilodeau, a parent.
Students from Great Path Academy were put on buses and were told to wait for their parents to pick them up. Their school went immediately into lock down.
There were a lot of anxious parents waiting in their cars and waiting for word that their child was on the bus and could take them home.
"You still haven't seen your daughter yet," asked News 8's Bob Wilson.
"No, I haven't seen her. She's been texting me since the whole thing started," said Nekoma Scott, a parent.
Scott watched bus after bus pull up as students got off to hug their parents. Her daughter was still locked down inside the school as the SWAT Team worked to clear the building.
"I just told her to stay close to the window and find a closet or desk or somewhere to hide and just stay low and I said if necessary, throw something through the window if you have to go through the window," said Scott.
Police say none of the students were hurt. Police never found a gun but are looking for a heavy set Hispanic man, 5'8'' to 5'10'' who was wearing a red short sleeved t-shirt.
