HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- State and Hartford police are investigating an officer involved shooting that left one suspect dead and a car into the side of a building.
It happened at a housing complex on Wadsworth Street early Wednesday morning about 1:00 a.m.
The stolen Honda ended up inside a home with a crash that woke the entire Case Verde apartment complex.
Fortunately all the people in the apartment were upstairs at the time of the crash. They were not hurt. It was a different story for the three men who were inside the stolen Honda.
It all started on the other side of the apartment complex. Four Hartford police officers approached the car, thinking it looked suspicious. They told the men to show them their hands and not move. They did exactly the opposite.
"The suspect drove around the police car after striking it and then drove directly at the Hartford Police officers. A Hartford Police office drew his weapon and fired at the vehicle as that vehicle attempted to run the officers down," Lt. J. Paul Vance explained.
But the car kept going, weaving in between buildings and across lawns before going all the way inside an apartment. The police bullets hit two of the three men inside.
"There was one suspect wounded. Hartford Police Officers were able to rescue him," Vance said. "The operator was fatally injured and pronounced dead on the scene, and the third person is being interviewed right now by detectives."
Neighbors spent the morning navigating long lines of police tape marking a massive investigation.
"This neighborhood is not that bad. It was pretty good," said resident Loudes Ruiz.
Three Hartford police officers were treated for minor injuries. As with all shootings involving local police, the investigation will be done by State Police.
No names have been released of either the people in the car or the officers.
