West Suffield, Conn. (WTNH) -- A volunteer firefighter was killed after a two-car crash in West Suffield Wednesday morning.

The victim was Paul Simison, a 25 year veteran volunteer of Company 2 on Ratley Road.

The accident occurred just before 8 a.m., in the area of 3876 Mountain Road. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene they found a severe two-car collision.

The driver of the other other was taken to Baystate Hospital for serious injuries.

"It's a terrible, terrible tragedy for his family and it certainly is upsetting for the rest of the people in town as well," the First Selectman said, "given the fact that he's served the town so admirably for many years."

The accident is under investigation. Anyone that may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Sergeant Ryan Burrell at 860-668-3870.
