CANTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Federal investigators will be looking into the cause of a small plane crash in Canton that left two former Canton residents dead.
Authorities identified the victims as Donald Derocher, 73, and his wife Josephine, 74.
The small plane crashed on Onion Mountain just to the east of Gravey Road, near the Canton/Simsbury town line.
The plane, which was destined for Simsbury, disappeared from radar around 7 p.m. and was found a couple hours later, around 10:30 p.m. Rescue teams had to cut their own path to the crash site.
"They had to cut their way thru brush and trees to get up there and use all types of vehicles," said Capt. Lawrence Terra, Canton Police Department, "that is how rugged the terrain is."
The FAA says the four-seat Piper PA-28 was registered to Donald Derocher in Live Oak, Florida. The Derochers were former residents of Canton.
