NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police in New Britain are investigating an attempted kidnapping that happened Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m., in the area of Park Drive and Uncas Road.

An 11-year-old told police she was approached by an older man driving a minivan. The girl said when she denied the man's requests he drove off.

However, the man then did a u-turn coming back towards the girl. He exited his vehicle and the girl fled home and police were notified.

The vehicle was described as a grey minivan that was very dirty around the bottom. The girl told police the vehicle's plate had an "x" in it.

The girl told police the man had to reach outside the door to use the exterior handle and then hit the inside of the door to open it.

The suspect was described as an older man with a grey beard and grey hair.

Anyone in the area during that time or who may have information concerning the incident is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 860-826-3135.
