BERLIN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police in Berlin are recognizing a Burger King employee for her bravery during a robbery committed at the restaurant over the summer.

According to police, on August 4th, the Burger King located at 144 New Britain Rd., was robbed at gunpoint by two masked men.

During the robbery, one of the suspects jumped over the front counter and confronted the Burger King staff. The robber grabbed one individual who had attempted to hide, gather all the remaining employees together and with his handgun pointed at them, directed the employees to the rear of the restaurant, while demanding to know who the manager was and where the restaurant's safe was.

Yadira Velazquez, a longtime employee and assistant manager, stepped forward and identified herself. The robber then instructed Velazquez to open the safe.

Police said Velazquez complied with the request and can be seen on surveillance video attempting to calm the agitated suspect.

In recognition of her bravery, Velazquez was presented with the Berlin Police Department Chief's Achievement Award on December 5th.
