GLASTONBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police confirm human remains found in Glastonbury over the weekend belong to a missing East Hampton woman.
A woman, who was walking her dog along a dirt trail known as Windham Road, discovered the remains in a shallow grave around 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
The State Medical Examiner says the remains belong to Jini Barnum , an East Hampton woman who was last seen on July 28. Police say she left home that night after she had a disagreement with her boyfriend.
Her death has been ruled a homicide.
"They found Jini, it was her on the news last night," said Christie Quinn, Barnum's friend. "So um I was just in shock."
"I was just in total shock. Really. I just couldn't believe it. We thought we'd find her alive. We've had our hopes up. It's just really sad," one friend said.
A few weeks after Barnum was reported missing, police told News 8 her disappearance may be "the result of a criminal act ."
"She was fine and happy and just the same happy joyful Jini," said Samantha Vernik, Barnum's friend. "It was very shocking to hear, when I found out that she was missing I couldn't believe it, I had just seen her days before, and now she is gone."
Her death remains under investigation.
