Report: More women, minorities on Conn. boards

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A new report shows more women, blacks and Hispanics now sit on state boards and commissions, but the numbers still don't match the diversity of Connecticut's population.

While women hold a slim majority in the state, the report conducted by the Office of the Secretary of the State found there are still nearly 20 percent more men on state boards, commissions, committees and councils. Additionally, Hispanics are the fastest growing population group in Connecticut, but they represent less than four percent of the appointees.

The office did find, for the first time, the percentage of black appointees to these panels is at parity with the state's black population.

The report has been conducted every two years since 1993.

This year's report examined 175 boards. Of those, 24 had no females.
