School official quits after child sex sting

WINDSOR, Conn. (AP) — A top Windsor school official says a school board member jailed in Florida in a child sex sting in March has resigned from the board.

Christopher Watts was accused of trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl in an online chat with an undercover agent he believed was the child's father.

The Hartford Courant reports that Windsor Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Villar says he received Watts' resignation in an email from his lawyers. The school board demanded Watts' resignation earlier this month.

Windsor school officials said they have no reason to believe that the 38-year-old Watts contacted or engaged in inappropriate conduct with any Windsor school children.

Watts is in federal custody and held without bond. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 10 years in prison.
