Several Conn. swimming areas closed

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — State officials say poor water quality has forced the closure of several state park swimming areas.

Three popular parks along Long Island Sound have swimming bans pending new water tests scheduled for Wednesday. They are Rocky Neck State Park in Niantic, Silver Sands State Park, in Milford and Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. Only part of Sherwood Island State Park is closed to swimming.

Swimming areas also have been closed at Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth and Kettletown State Park in Southbury, pending new tests on Wednesday.

Officials also say Green Falls Pond at Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown is closed because of low water levels.

Officials say recent heavy rains have caused water quality problems.
