Stolen car driven into a Hartford pool

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Thousands of residents who wanted to cool off at the Hartford Goodwin Pool had to find somewhere else to go. The pool is closed after a vehicle drove through a fence and into the pool Saturday morning.

Officials say that around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a stolen motor vehicle crashed through the fence at Goodwin Park and was found partially submerged in the pool.

Crews are cleaning up debris in the pool and as a result, the pool will be closed on Sunday and Monday. Officials say that the earliest the pool could reopen would be on Tuesday.

Officials estimate that thousands of people would have been cooling off by the pool today, if it had been open.

"The way this heat wave is going on, we were estimating close to 10,000 people," said Troy Stewart, Superintendent of Recreation, "even more than that."

No injuries were reported and police say that do not yet have any suspects.
