PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) -- Three people were hurt after an early morning fire in Plainville on Monday.
Two people at the home were taken to the hospital and a firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.
Dorothy Griffin thought she heard road crews outside her house around 2:30 a.m., but she was actually hearing firefighters across the street.
"The porch was engulfed in flames, and everybody was here," she said.
Firefighters were trying to help the man and woman who live at 7 Washington Street.
"When we arrived we had heavy fire on the first floor, one person outside the building, and one person inside the building," explained Fire Chief Ray Swanson.
The woman was taken to New Britain General Hospital with smoke inhalation.
Firefighters had to rescue the man inside.
"Yesterday I saw him. Things were fine," Griffin said. "Went to bed, then woke up to this, so, I don't know."
He was taken to the hospital in Bridgeport to be treated for burns, but it's not clear how severe those burns are.
It's also not clear what caused the fire.
"There wasn't any lightning. The storm had passed, so, you know, I don't think it was lightning," Griffin said.
Lightning strikes are being blamed for two other house fires in Plainville just hours earlier.
"This is our third fire today," Swanson said. "We've had two other structure fires and this is our third one, so our guys are pretty whooped right now and the heat is adding to it."
One firefighter was transported to New Britain General to be treated for smoke inhalation, but he has since been released.
