HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — United Technologies Corp. says it's laid off 150 salaried employees as part of a restructuring of its UTC Aerospace Systems division.
Seventy of the employees worked at a former Hamilton Sundstrand plan in Windsor Locks and the others worked at a plant that's closing in Ithaca, N.Y.
UTC Aerospace Systems spokesman Matthew Perra said Thursday that the company is also working toward reducing 300 hourly positions in Connecticut, which the company announced in March 2011.
UTC Aerospace Systems is the combination of Hamilton-Sundstrand and Goodrich and is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.
Perra said the plant in Ithaca had been focused on space programs that have recently seen slower growth. He said 24 new positions will be created at a company plant in Danbury to absorb the work.
