West Hartford, Conn. - A Wendy's worker was arrested Friday for allegedly trying to stab his co-worker.
"The fact that someone would pull out a knife and snap like that is freaky," Eric Baier of West Hartford said.
It happened at the Wendy's near the West Farms Mall.
"That's crazy to think that an employee had a knife on him while at work.," Eric Iverson of West Hartford said.
One employee pulling a knife on another over some bacon. Bacon that was dropped on the floor and put back into a sandwich to serve to a customer.
Derron Cooke, 25, is facing several charges including breach of peace, assault and reckless endangerment for his confrontation around 1 p.m.
Police say DCooke saw the bacon hit the floor and told the manager about it.
"There is the three-second rule but that doesn't count in fast food because everybody is stepping on the floor," Iverson said.
Police say Cooke was called a snitch and pulled out a personal knife.
There are conflicting reports, police say, of what really went down. Whether this was over bacon or how the other worker was handling food.
"The one story the victim gave is that the victim and Cooke, the arrestee, were in the back in the cooking area and Cook told the victim he was doing something wrong with the way he was doing his chicken, whether he didn't have enough on there, whatever, there were words as to the preparation of the chicken," West Hartford Police Lt.. Stephen Estes said. "This led to sort of a back and forth, words, and then Cooke took a knife out and threatened the victim."
Though police got conflicting eyewitness accounts, they had enough to charge Cooke.
"The victim did not get cut, but we've got [Cooke] brandishing a knife, in definitely a threatening manner," Estes said.
Wendy's had no comment but Cooke was fired. It is unclear what happened to the other employee accused of dropping the bacon on the floor.
