Glastonbury, Conn. (WTNH) - Area residents of all ages will unite to raise awareness and vital research funding for lung cancer at the fourth annual Free to Breathe® 5K Fun Run/Walk and 1 Mile Walk on Sept. 19 at Glastonbury High School. All proceeds support the National Lung Cancer Partnership's research, education and awareness programs, which empower patients, advocates, and the community to effect change, and make the fight against lung cancer a priority.
Registration ($30) opens at 8:30 a.m. 5K run/walk begins at 10 a.m.
Despite lung cancer being the No. 1 cancer killer of men and women in Connecticut, awareness of the disease and its risks and symptoms is low, and the amount of federal research dollars available pales in comparison with other cancers. The National Lung Cancer Partnership was founded by physicians and researchers working together with survivors and advocates to increase lung cancer awareness and to fund cutting-edge lung cancer research, which is essential to helping patients live longer and better lives.
To fulfill its mission of raising awareness and research funding for lung cancer, the Partnership initiated the Free to Breathe® program in 2006. For more information or to register, donate, sponsor or volunteer for the event please visit: www.FreetoBreathe.org .
National Lung Cancer Partnership is dedicated to decreasing deaths due to lung cancer, and helping patients live longer and better, through research, awareness and advocacy. For more information visit: www.NationalLungCancerPartnership.org .
