Ridgefield (WTNH) - One Connecticut plastic surgeon is accused of being a dirty doctor. Now, her license is suspended and investigators say the things they found were shocking.
Dr. Teresita Mascardo had been running the Connecticut Plastic Surgery Center in Ridgefield.
What was allegedly discovered is quite disturbing. Rust on equipment like an auto-clave, and blood and human fluid on tools designed to be used once, which were found repackaged and re-used. Blood, dust and animal droppings were found on the floor and machines. All of the violations, nine counts in total, were discovered during a scheduled inspection.
"Emergency orders are very rare, they are reserved for extraordinary situations. This facility is one in which there is imminent and immediate danger to public health," Blumenthal said.
NewsChannel 8 has learned that Dr. Marty Gottleib, listed as the group's head of anesthesiology is not a licensed doctor in Connecticut.
"All kinds of really completely unsafe, unsanitary unacceptable conditions. This has to be stopped right away," Blumenthal said.
Dr. Mascardo has an office in New York. Connecticut officials are working to spread their message, informing legal and health organizations about their findings.
"Her license is suspended as far as this facility is concerned. We are going to make sure there is no threat from her practicing in any other facility in which she may be engaged," Blumenthal said.
Attorney General Blumethal says the investigation is on-going and is designed to protect the public.
"She'll have a hearing in which she can defend herself," Blumenthal said. "But our investigation is ongoing and we are going to make sure public health is protected."
We made phone calls to Dr. Mascardo on both her Connecticut and New York numbers, but none of the messages were returned.
According to her web site, Dr. Mascardo also has a practice in New York. According to court documents, in 2007, Dr. Mascardo pled guilty to filing a false tax return and as a result, had her license suspended in 2008 in New York.
