CCMC, CRIS to improve kids' treatment experience

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- CRIS radio and the Connecticut Children's Medical Center are beginning a first-of-its-kind service for children.
       
It will offer young patients a new way to pass the time while they receive medical treatments.

Televisions in each room will be outfitted with audio recordings of books and children's magazines, such as Sports Illustrated for Kids.

Hospital staff predict it could be calming to hear the voices of CRIS volunteers reading stories.

"It's going to allow children that opportunity to really advance themselves through hearing, listening, reading, relaxing, not only always having the stimulation of television, but also having radio and being read to," said Patricia McIntosh, CT Children's Medical Center.

Right now patients will have access to over a dozen titles.
