(WTNH) - Check your freezer. Approximately 545,699 pounds of fresh ground beef has been recalled because of E. coli concerns.
The recalled meat was sold at Shaw's, Price Chopper, Trader Joe's and BJ's Wholesale Club here in Connecticut.
Fairbank Farms produced the product between September 14th through September 16th. The product should no longer be on store shelves, but if you find it in your freezer, you should return it to the store for a full reimbursement.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the meat sold by New York-based Fairbank Farms was linked to cases of E. coli-related illness in Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts. New Hampshire health officials say one person died and two others became ill.
E. coli is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.
