BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Moms, dads and just about anyone you ask in Connecticut has a lot to say about an eye-opening Time magazine cover showing a woman breastfeeding her almost four year old son.
"I was a little shocked by it, taken aback," Phyllis Kozlowski said.
"It's a good marketing tool. It's the way you sell a magazine and that's what they're in the business of doing," said Joel Siegel. "I know they think they're in the business of selling news, but I think they're in the business of selling magazines."
And sell magazines they did, at least in Fairfield where we couldn't find a single issue left on store shelves. For those who hadn't yet seen the cover image of a mother breastfeeding her 3-year-old son, News 8 showed it to them.
"Oh! That's kind of not right," said Elaine P. after we showed her the picture.
"I think it's gross," said Carol Atwill. "He's so old he's going to remember this. It's going to be a memory for him and now it's been put into print so he'll never be able to get away from it. I think it's gross."
It's an attachment that many guess the boy will want to detach himself from fast.
"I think people have the right to express themselves but I think that's a little over the top," Stephanie Wienstein said."
Asked what she meant by over the top, Wienstein said "putting a 4-year-old on a bench to suckle on a nipple."
Atwill said "it's too old. I don't think there's any health benefits for it at that stage of the game, so no, other than the shock value I don't think there's any reason for it."
The Time cover created a lot of buzz, but it has been the number one searched term on Google today.
