SHELTON, Conn. (WTNH) - Your next visit to the dentist could brighten your smile with drill free dentistry.

Braces and kids go hand in hand, but if brushing and flossing are not part of the routine there's not a lot to smile about.

Jen Wier doesn't like looking at old pictures of herself, she says she never smiled.

"I never did, it was embarrassing for me, and pictures last forever," says Wier.

Until six months ago her teeth were a mess. Wier blames herself for not taking care of her teeth when she was younger.

"I didn't brush," says Wier.

"It's absolutely preventable but when you're 11 years old, you're more interested in playing sports, or with your friends," says Wier.

Thankfully Pediatric Dentists like Dr. Larry Dinkes are turning to high tech chemistry to clear things up.

"The white spots are pluracities, the lost of minerals on the teeth," says Dinkes of Children's Dentistry & Orthodontics.

The drill free process called ICON wipes out the white spots that leads to cavities.

"It reinforces or replaces the lost minerals in those white spots which then resign before it actually gets to a painful stage where you have to do a real filling," says Dinkes.

"It was absolutely painless, I had no sensitivity," says Wier.

The ICON process takes longer than a regular filling, but it does have immediate results.

"I have so much more to smile about, I've gotten my self confidence back," says Wier.

ICON which has widely been used in Europe is making it's way to more dentists like Dinkes who say they are discovering the benefits.

"It allows me to prevent cavities," says Dinkes.

It takes about 30 minutes per tooth for the process to be complete.
