BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Members of Claytor's Ministry in Bridgeport teamed up with community activists and organizations for its Children's Health, Hunger and Nutritional Day.
The program, called Feed the People Food Pantry, raises awareness about a number of health issues that affect infants and children.
The Connecticut Food Bank also delivered 5,000 pounds of fresh food and produce to the event.
Organizer, Gerry Claytor, says city residents were able help themselves to it at no charge.
"If you want the attention of people, if you want to curb crime first you've got to make sure they're fed. They not hungry, their resources, their needs are met," she said. "I I want this community to come together so we can say this community is holistic, this community is wholesome... not going to create problems."
The event was held near the PT Barnum Housing Complex.
It's just one of the many locations that the non-profit group helps through it's food pantry and other initiatives.
