New Haven, Conn (WTNH) - Eating out is taking on a healthier twist in New Haven.

There was a warm applause as city and business leaders in New Haven joined the owners of Pure Health Lounge at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday.

The international franchise is now open for customers on Audubon Street.

Co-owner Ray Sbrega said, "I'm hoping that we can keep downtown New Haven happy and smiling for the next several years to come."

Smoothies and fruit drinks, along with a healthy fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner are sure to fill up the appetites of health conscious diners.

Tony Rescigno who heads up the New Haven Chamber of Commerce was among those in attendance.  He said, "This is going to be a real home run here.  Who else but everybody right now is just thinking health foods and how to do it right."

Ray added, "When we went out and sampled our first smoothie and had some of their food products, we just knew this is what we wanted to do."

Pure Health Lounge is the latest business in recent months to move into the retail district of the Elm City.

The Director of University Properties, Abigail Rider said, "We're constantly striving to bring an interesting, eclectic, local, regional and national group of retailers to the city in order to make New Haven a wonderful place to work, play, live, study."

As well as living a healthier lifestyle.
