Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - The Connecticut Department of Public Health is warning the public that they may have been exposed to measles.
The DPH was notified of a measles case by the Suffolk County Health Department. The patient traveled on the Cross Sound Ferry, on the "John H", between New London and Orient Point, Suffolk County on July 7 at 1pm and 3pm. The patient also stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Riverhead, New York between July 7 and July 9.
Measles is a highly contagious virus that can in lead to death. Symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough, loss of appetite, "pink eye," and a rash. The rash usually lasts 5 – 6 days and begins at the hairline, moves to the face and upper neck, and proceeds down the body.

People born before 1957 are considered immune to measles, as well as those who have had two doses of the MMR vaccine.
To prevent the spread of measles, the DPH says if you think you have been exposed you should call your doctor or emergency room BEFORE going in for treatment so that others are not exposed.
