Branford (WTNH) - Walkers and bikers now have some new land to explore along the shoreline. Today the most recently created section of trail was opened in Branford.

This is the first step in a proposed 25-mile trail through four shoreline towns, from Madison to New Haven.

"We have 20 percent of the trail now either open or under construction or committed by the landowner. That's five miles of trail, which is longer than a lot of trails toward our 25 mile shoreline greeway trail," Chip Angle, chairman of Shoreline Greenway Trail , said.

The trail was opened today for Connecticut Trail Days, which is part of National Trail Day, a program created to inspire folks to hit the trails.
