Branford (WTNH) - Branford fifth-grader Marshall Borrus is home with a fever. He goes to the the Francis Walsh Intermediate School which is reporting an elevated level of absences due to illness but the school remains open.
"I haven't heard any parents that are pushing we should close and administrators are doing a good job checking the classrooms," Joanne Borrus, from the Parent Teacher Association, said.
But other schools have closed due to suspected outbreaks of the H1N1 virus. Last week it was Guilford High School. This week it's Middletown's Keigwin Middle School and all schools in Burlington and Harwinton including the Regional High school.
That means no after school practices and no games for athletic teams.
"We are going to allow schools to make up games when they can - including on Sundays," Michael Savage, from C.I.A.C., said.
Michael Savage says the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference came up with a plan this summer on how to handle missed games because of the swine flu.
During the regular season games, they can be made up or simply declared no contest.
"We are going to run them as planned if a school cannot participate we will move it along if we have to," Savage said.
Marshall may stay home another day but he won't miss the PTA's Halloween party since its been cancelled .
"To bring them all together with these viral things going around did not make a lot of sense," Borrus said.
