Hamden (WTNH) - Quinnipiac University released a statement about an active isolation room for any students who are ill with flu-like symptoms.
The following statement is from Lynn Bushnell, vice president for public affairs at Quinnipiac University:
The University will activate an isolation area in the Recreation Center by 12 noon on Tuesday, Nov. 3 to care for those students who have influenza-like symptoms. The isolation area is being activated because Student Health Services has an extremely limited capacity to house an influx of ill students.
In accordance with Center for Disease Control protocols, the University is isolating those students with influenza-like symptoms from the rest of the campus community until they can be transported home to recuperate. The University requires all students who have a temperature of 100 degrees, cough and sore throat and who live within a 150-200 mile radius of the University, to leave campus and recuperate at home.
To prevent the spread of infection, please remember to: Wash your hands frequently with soap and water; Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue and immediately throw the tissue away. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve. If you must use your hands, wash them immediately with soap and water; Not touch your eyes, nose or mouth after touching public surfaces; Avoid contact with people who are ill or maintain a distance of 3 to 6 feet from anyone who is coughing; and Clean shared surfaces before and after using them (common household cleaning products or a bleach and water solution are adequate.)
The University will continue to closely monitor this situation and act prudently to keep all members of the campus community as healthy as possible.
