Hamden (WTNH) - The Helen Street Elementary School in Hamden will be closed Friday and Monday because three students have the swine flu (H1N1) and many more are exhibiting symptoms.

Forty-six kids missed school today because of illness and 39 are showing symptoms of the H1N1 virus.

"Our concern, really is not based on numbers, but trends we watched through communication. It's based on the increase of the number of children presenting the school day with symptoms, it was also based on increasing trend or jump if I may, in absenteeism due to children with flu-like symptoms," said Leslie Balch, Quinnipiac Valley Health District.

The school days will have to be made up - most likely on the 23rd and 24th of June.

Updates will be done on the Quinnipiac Valley Health District website .
