New Haven (WTNH) - Following a month of rain, we're in for a bumper crop of mosquitos. But they're more than just a nuisance, these pests also bring the threat of disease.
Dr. Theodore Andreadis says he is 'expecting Connecticut to get clobbered' with mosquitos.
"Mosquito eggs require water to hatch," said Dr. Andreadis.
And there's been plenty of water. With the weather heating up, conditions are ripe for adult mosquitos.
The state traps about 200,000 mosquitos in 91 locations throughout the state each year. They will get tested for 9 different viruses including West Nile.
Tips for keeping the population down include emptying standing
water, wearing long sleeves and pants and using bug spray.
