(WTNH) - Are you unhappy about that stomach bulge that diet and exercise just can not seem to budge?
News Channel 8 has found out that women are turning to what's called the Smart Lipo for a smoother look.
This is not your traditional lipo.
"We're going deep into the fat," Dr. Goodkind said.
Smart Lipo targets isolated areas you want to tone down.
"Smart Lipo is not a substitute for proper diet and exercise. Smart Lipo is used to re-contour the genetically pre-determined areas of fatty fullness that exercise and proper diet can not eliminate," Goodkind said.
Now trouble spots like under the arms are realistic targets.
To get to there, Plastic Surgeon Dr. David Goodkind says the three step process uses a less invasive tool to heat the skin.
"The advantage to heating the skin is that we've shown increasing elasticity," Goodkind said.
The fat melted is eventually sucked out.
"In this cannula, there is a little wire, the wire gives us a constant readout of the temperature in the area where we are operating," Goodkind said.
The patient, under local anesthesia, has no pain, just pressure, and is awake throughout the procedure.
Tammy Ovesny is more than satisfied with her results.
"I've had abdominal surgery before so no matter how much exercising I did, nothing seemed to take that away that pouch was always there," Ovesny said.
But unless you keep track, weight can still be an issue.
"I've gained a little weight, but it goes to other places," Ovesny said.
"if they are a good candidate, and if its done properly, you have to get a result. Is it what the patient or doctor expected, there might be some variability in that," Goodkind said.
When compared to traditional lipo, Dr. Goodkind says smart lipo is less traumatic, with less bleeding and down time for the patient.
And experts recommend going to a board certified plastic surgeon
to get it done.
