New Haven (WNTH) - Personal information on thousands of Connecticut doctors and health care professionals have been compromised in a security breach connected to Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

A laptop computer containing personal information was stolen, and Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is accusing BC/BS of dragging it feet by waiting to notify proper officials.

It's suspected Social Security numbers and other confidential information for over 18,000 Connecticut health care providers was on that laptop. The information belongs to doctors, therapists and other health care professionals. .

The laptop was stolen in August, but Attorney General Blumenthal said it was only last month that the company notified health care providers about the data breech.

Blumenthal says the company's offer of one year of free identity theft protection is not adequate.
