H1N1 scaring trick-or-treaters

Halloween is always a time for parents to worry about keeping their kids safe, but with the swine flu virus spreading rapidly, many have a new concern.

Parneeta Sidhu of Branford says she won't let H1N1 ruin Halloween. "Actually, it's supposed to be a milder flu so, just like any other season, I'm not that worried about it."

Sidhu's approach seems to be the consensus among parents. Don't be careless, but don't let the flu get in the way of the fun.

"Make sure they wash their hands, which we have them do anyways, they know to cough in their elbows, and they're ready to go. But I'm gonna let the kids have a good time this Halloween," said Todd Degree of Oxford.

Health experts are offering a few H1N1 specific tips this year. If your child is sick with the flu, they should stay at home. And it might not be a bad idea to equip your princess or pirate with a little hand sanitizer. When you're giving out candy, try to hand it out individually instead of letting everyone reach into the bowl.

Swine flu may be on the list of scary things this Halloween, but it's not going to keep most trick-or-treaters home.

"We tried to get the vaccination, but she can't get it until November 7th so we're waiting until then and we're just gonna trick-or-treat the same way we usually do," said Heather Fernandez of Branford.
