UConn medical school given probation warning

FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) - An accrediting group has given a "warning of probation" to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine after finding that the school failed to fully comply with 15 out of 132 standards.

The Liaison Committee on Medical Education says its concerns include the school's economic future, a potentially inadequate number of faculty, vacant department chairmanships, possible problems with student evaluations and inadequate financial aid services and debt counseling.

UConn officials say none of the citations is about the quality of education at the medical school. The school remains accredited and will submit a plan to correct the problems by the end of the year.

A report by the Liaison Committee also praised the school's programs and student body.
