West Hartford (WTNH) - A national campaign aims to bring families together at dinnertime for a meal that includes a cold glass of milk.
The Milk the Moment tour attracted shoppers of all ages at West Farms Mall.
"Our purpose is to encourage Moms to set the dinner table with milk to help build a strong family and really make family time dinnertime," said Christen Oliveta, Milk the Moment.
There were all kinds of activities, including getting a milk mustache.
"It's a mixture of milk and ice cream. It makes it a little thicker so you can get the 'Got Milk?' mustache just like the celebrities do," said Oliveto.
Milk the Moment is all about building strong families and strong kids.
"Many people believe that milk has a different nutrient content between whole milk and fat free milk but actually all milk has 9 essential nutrients that parents and kids need for healthy bones and healthy teeth," said Jane Vergnani, nutritionist, New England Dairy & Food Council.
Vergnani says milk is the easiest way to get your three daily servings of dairy.
"If you have milk versus water, it's only about 80 extra calories but you're getting more calcium, vitamin D, potassium, protein that is so important," she said.
Heather Behrendt is a mother and she knows the importance of milk for her kids.
"They don't drink soda, they drink juice, maybe just once a day or once every couple of days. So milk is the essential drink in our home. Milk and water. So they grow up to have strong bones and healthy bodies," she said.
Milk the Moment will be touring 75 cities across America.
